Independence Memorial Hall

A national monument in Sri Lanka, the Independence memorial hall is one of the most historically significant places to visit in Colombo. Built to commemorate Sri Lanka’s independence from the British rule on the 4th of February 1948, it is located in one of Colombo’s most elite towns , Cinnamon Gardens, also a popular spot for walking and jogging.

The Independence Memorial Hall in Colombo houses the statue of Rt. Hon. Don Stephen Senanayake , the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and plays host to religious events as well as national day celebrations. The Arcade – Independence Square is also one of the newer shopping malls located right next to the monument with high end luxury brands, restaurants and malls. You can take a relaxing stroll in the evenings and enjoy the balmy Sri Lankan weather or walk across to the Arcade when you visit Colombo.
The Independence Memorial Hall is located in Colombo 07 and will take you less than 15 minutes by taxi or a tuk tuk from The Kingsbury, Colombo.
